Fans of quirky Taiwanese microbrewery Ugly Half Beer, it is now possible to get your hands on a good range of their brews in Singapore.
Rather than at your local craft beer retailer or a downtown tap room however, it is Luke’s Lobster, best known for their Maine lobster rolls, that is now exclusively carrying six of the brand’s core range – Jumbo Sour, Guava Gose, TOASTea Lager, Big Three XPA, Hazy IPA, and Oyster Stout.
The partnership came about as they were seeking to further espouse the Maine culture of enjoying lobster rolls with a chase of craft beer. After stumbling upon Ugly Half Beer’s uniquely vibrant profile and their shared love for using locally-sourced ingredients, they decided to seal the deal.
Of course, how well the beers paired with the food was a major deciding factor too, and they’ve even come up with suggested pairings to further enhance the experience.

For the Signature Lobster Roll (S$25.50), none other than the Guava Gose (S$13) is recommended to go with it. The heavenly combo of buttery rolls with citrus-induced sourness simply works wonders.
Meanwhile, for the seasonal-turned-permanent Wasabi Mayo Lobster Roll (S$28.90), grab a hoppy Big Three XPA (S$13) or juicy Hazy IPA (S$14) for a pairing that brings out the fresh fruitiness in both food and drink.
As for the light and tart Jumbo Sour (S$13), the Luke’s Trio (S$33.50) – a triple threat roll of lobster, crab, and shrimp – is a great accompaniment. The refreshing sipper, fermented using saison yeast, is versatile and doesn’t overpower any of the three crustaceans used.

And for something that goes well with almost any item on the Luke’s Lobster menu, the TOASTea Lager (S$13) and Oyster Stout (S$14) are your best bets. The former is a malty brew made using assam tea and discarded bread gathered from nearby bakeries, while the latter is an imperial stout laced with a slight brininess thanks to the whole oysters used in its brewing.
For a cosy dinner party at home, Luke’s Lobster is also now offering their rolls and beers as a set for S$117.70, which comes inclusive of a Signature Lobster Roll, Luke’s Trio, and your choice of any four of the six Ugly Half beers.
Ugly Half Beer is now available for delivery and in-store at all Luke’s Lobster outlets in Singapore, including Great World, Isetan Scotts, and Jewel Changi Airport.
